Our History

A journey through the most important moments of our history.

History 1
1974 - 1979

The beginnings of a Mexican vision

Promotora Hotelera La Palapa is founded and, three years later in 1977, its name is changed to Promotora Hotelera Misión, starting the first 100% Mexican hotel chain with four locations: Hotel Misión Mérida, Hotel Misión Uxmal, Hotel Misión Chichén Itzá, and Hotel Misión Palenque. Don Roberto Zapata Gil had the vision to create a truly Mexican hotel chain that could compete with international brands. He started with hotels strategically located near Mayan archaeological sites, offering visitors a unique experience combining culture and history with Mexican hospitality.

National expansion

Hoteles Misión expands and reaches new destinations such as Oaxaca, Mexico City, Puebla, and Morelia.

The 1980s marked a period of significant expansion, with Hoteles Misión bringing its concept to new colonial cities and urban centers. This diversification strategy allowed the chain to serve both cultural and business tourism, expanding its presence in the national market.

History 3
1990-1999

Brand diversification

Two new categories begin to take shape in response to the changing market. Hotel Misión Express: focused on serving business travelers, and Hotel Misión Grand: exclusive and innovative, the perfect balance between luxury and comfort.

Recognizing the changing needs of the market, Hoteles Misión innovated by creating new categories to serve different segments. The Express brand was designed specifically for business travelers seeking efficiency and functionality, while the Grand category elevated the experience for those seeking a higher level of luxury without losing the Mexican essence.

Roberto Zapata Llabrés

Heir to an important hotel legacy and leader of the first 100% Mexican company in the field, Roberto Zapata Llabrés is a man whose presence resonates inside and outside the national tourism industry.

In 2000, the eldest of the Zapata family took over the business and, although he initially followed in his father's footsteps, he gradually forged his own path with a different, standardized, and process-based leadership.

Tenacity, consistency, and love for family are the pillars that guide his life. For him, consistency and creativity are key to offering competitive products in a changing market.
